How to Apply For Your Virginia resident Concealed Handgun Permit.

Take your certificate of completion from your course to your local circuit court clerks office to apply. Application fee's at the circuit court can range from $15-$50 depending on your county.

How to Apply for a Virginia NON-RESIDENT Concealed Carry Permit

Complete and pass our training course then download and print your Certificate. If you are having trouble downloading your certificate please contact us.
Next, complete the Virginia State Non-Resident Application Package -  Application for Concealed Handgun Permit Form SP 248 (PDF) - You will have to get the application notarized. You can usually have documents Notorized at your local bank.
Next, complete a Fingerprint Card - Applicant Card FD258. You can have your fingerprint card completed at your local law enforcement agency or at a private company acting as an agent of a law enforcement agency.
The fingerprint card must be 
  • Signed by the applicant.
  • Signed by the agency taking the prints.
  • Include the telephone number of the agency and individual taking the prints.
  • The agency stamp on the back of the print card is requested but not mandatory.
Next, obtain a Money Order or Cashier’s Check in the amount of $100.00 made payable to the Virginia State Police.

Next, you need to obtain two recent photographs to include in your application package. See specific photo requirements here, these are like your passport photos and can be taken at your local Walgreens or CVS for around $10.

The requirements are as follows

  • 2 x 2 inches in width and height.
  • Identical.
  • Color or Black and White.
  • Full face, front view, with white or off white background.
  • Taken in normal street attire.

Next, create a legible photocopy of your valid Photo ID issued by a government agency.
Finally, once you have completed all the steps above, place the contents from the previous steps in a large envelope and mail them with your return address to the address below.
